    Westview Derby has new executive management in both the Adminisrator and Director of Nursing. A cohesive team has forged through change. The residents are happy and call us part of their family. This is a hidden gem in Derby for elderly looking for a place to call home.

    This facility had an overall state of disrepair. The outdoor space was terrible and even dangerous (uneven brick area, sloping walkway down to fence, gazebo in disrepair). There were CNA's who didn't know how to fill an oxygen tank. When I wanted to move my mom closer to me I was told "maybe in a couple of weeks after more therapy" which would have been when her higher paying Medicare A days were over (therapy people had already told me she was doing well, walking 20 steps, transferring safely, and could go anytime). A resident and their POA have a right to move at any time and this facility did not act to uphold her rights. I was threatened repeatedly about removing her against medical advice even though I kept telling the Director of Nursing that I wasn't going to do that and there was plenty of time to get doctor's order for transfer. They even had her sign a POA form assigning my brother as POA even though they had previously said she had dementia and wasn't able to make decisions. They already knew I had power of attorney and I brought them the paper work. They later tore that one up. There were several staff members who were excellent and I appreciated their presence and care of my mom but overall I can not recommend this facility. It is no wonder it was only half full.

    I hope there have been a lot of changes. Bed sores were an issue, smell and some of the employees should have never been around residents or medications. This was 15 years ago. Just three months ago a local facility begged me not to put my parents there. I did not plan on it even though they could not remain where they were. Not everyone was lazy, uncaring, but some were and some of the nurse's didn't care. You couldn't get them to leave the desk to help with anything. CNA's did things that should have been the job of a licensed nurse. I did not stay over a year.

    I worked in this On and off if there's one thing I could tell anyone looking for a nursing home is to not send their family here if you are looking for a place go to larksfield if you can't find and opening then I would suggest regent park or lake point here's why you'll notice a high turn over rate the high turn over rate is due to the over load of work brought on my their don whom is a hot head to an extreme and treats her employees poorly.. Also you will notice at times there out of wet wipes in residents rooms and they don't have enough gloves for residents use at times the nursing staff also is very rude twards employees making comments such as your (petty)
