So far, things aren't so great. The place won't give my mother (who has a fractured L5) a back brace... even though I spoke with Medicare and they said it would be covered. OT hasn't done the appropriate therapy with her so that she can regain functionality in her dominant arm (shoulder replacement). The nursing staff argues with her about pain medication (even though she has appropriate doctor's orders). Twice now, they have tried to discharge her (even though she can't walk and can't move her dominant arm). Yesterday, the social worker told my mom that she was being discharged because they don't care... you read that right... they don't care what her surgical doctor thinks about whether she is ready for discharge or not. Her oxygen level is plummeting to 70 or below and these people want her out. I'm there regularly and so far I have met 2 nice people, unfortunately, those people are not in a management position so they can do nothing about the ill treatment.

Allowed to do a monthly Bible study and all the residents seem content.

We are very happy with Providence Place. Mom has been here twice in the past year. Both times we have had a very good experience. The entire place is clean and fresh everyday. The staff is kind and pleasant. We feel welcome anytime. They are friendly and gentle with our elderly mother. She is very comfortable there and chose to return when she needed rehab again and we all agreed. This is a very homey place and I would recommend it to anyone.

At first I had some issues with how the staff was treating my mom. I swore that it wouldn't happen to someone else's mom. I spoke to the director. If something didn't change, I was bringing my mom home. Luckily, the director was very kind. Got things done and my mom's rehab finally started. She's now home and doing well. I applaud the senior management for having an open door and caring ear. Please ... make sure to check on your loved ones regularly. Ask the difficult questions. Their safety depends on it!

Compare The Number of Problems

Types of Problems at Nursing Homes

Some issues within a nursing home are much more severe than others. Medicare evaluates each problem based on 2 scales: the number of residents affected by a problem and the severity of the potential or actual harm to residents based on the problem. We have color coded the matrix below to make it easier to pick out the more severe problems. In general, orange and red issues related to the treatment of a resident are considered substandard quality of care.

  Residents Affected
Severity of the Deficiency Few Some Many
Immediate jeopardy to resident health or safety J K L
Actual harm that is not immediate jeopardy G H I
No actual harm with potential for more than minimal harm that is not immediate jeopardy D E F
No actual harm with potential for minimal harm A B C
