If you want your family member to be treated bad right in front of you, this is the place to bring them. After having my grandma in there for 8 months, I honestly feel bad for the cats. We were told she only gets two depends a day! What the hell!! She was always wet when we came to visit. One day we caught her being forcefully pushed down the hall. I tell you if they have alzheimers take them some where else. One day we found her eating a cigarette. She cannot talk so I asked who was in charge finally a nurse said she was, I asked her to stand up and explain why my grandma is eating a cigarette she said oh im not in charge of her. WTH!!! She was suppose to be given nightly snacks, well during one visit I happened to look at the bag they gave me of cookies and they were for some man... Which means she wasn't getting them every night. I think the kicker was when they called to say the daily should start thinking about a feeding tube.... Funny that the same day she was able to eat a candy bar with no issues. Yes, you may need to sit with her and coach her to take a bite but isn't that your job? I worked for nursing homes for years and I tell you this place is an embarrassment. We have since brought grandma home. Not to mention the many falls she had while in there which resulted in a broken nose and skinned up hands. She has been walking fine at home. The administrator seemed like he was willing to help rid the problem people but my question is, how many people would be left. I know no nursing home is perfect but I'm just happy she is home.

Compare The Number of Problems

Types of Problems at Nursing Homes

Some issues within a nursing home are much more severe than others. Medicare evaluates each problem based on 2 scales: the number of residents affected by a problem and the severity of the potential or actual harm to residents based on the problem. We have color coded the matrix below to make it easier to pick out the more severe problems. In general, orange and red issues related to the treatment of a resident are considered substandard quality of care.

  Residents Affected
Severity of the Deficiency Few Some Many
Immediate jeopardy to resident health or safety J K L
Actual harm that is not immediate jeopardy G H I
No actual harm with potential for more than minimal harm that is not immediate jeopardy D E F
