    Temporary Care Review: Very Poor care, PLEASE if your insurance gives you other options, look into them. This was the recommended facility for us, my mother stayed here for 3 weeks post-stroke. She was supposed to receive two sessions of PT and OT everyday to regain her ability to walk but she only got one brief session a day and sometimes none. Nurses were rude and unresponsive when I brought up her lack of care, and told me she was getting PT and OT twice a day ( although she wasn't.) My mother is highly disabled and needs oxygen at night; this facility was supposed to place her in an oxygen mask every night ( this is what caused her stroke) but over the course of 3 weeks she received oxygen twice. After multiple attempts to get to the bottom of this, the supervisor told me he would insure she would get oxygen at night- but nothing changed throughout the 3 weeks. This facility is dirty, old, and extremely uncomfortable as a guest OR as a patient. I continuously complained to supervisors, and staff about the lack of care my mother received, and was assured that she would be taken care of. 3 weeks later, she is released with NO change in her functioning, she is actually less capable than when she was admitted. She was confined to a bed 24/7 and was given terrible care. If your thinking of sending a loved one here, they are better off at home. If your able to get care in another facility, As a family member of a patient, I HIGHLY recommend seeking other care.

    A little overwhelmed, but trying hard. I see many people seem to have overly high expectations for what is a tough job, often underfunded and a set of jobs that are human based & high in burnout. My Mother was there for rehab after a foot operation, and a couple of people dropped the ball from time to time, but overall the PT was pretty good, the nurses work so hard, are often overwhelmed with work to do, etc. People seem to expect 24/7 oversight. That's not going to happen, and the nurses I met were caring and doing their best. The more you advocate for your patient, the better the care. Considering where it is, and that its often full to the brim, it's pretty clean, its a pretty nice atmosphere. The food is not too bad. I'd love to see some of the people complaining to try and work there at any of those jobs, and then come tell me how terrible the place is. This industry is full of real snakes in the grass. This place is doing their best with what they have to work with. This is not a hotel. It's a rehab and the PT people do a good job.

    Terrible. It is unfortunate that you have to fear leaving a loved one in a nursing home. The most terrifying thought is that I don't believe any other nursing home would be better. For the most part if you have to leave your loved one at the Jewish Nursing Home make sure you leave them with a phone because no one will answer the phone. Secondly bring some cleaning supplies you will also have to act as your own housekeeping staff. I don't understand why doctors and nursing work at these places when they know they don't want to. The bedside manner is awful. If you have special dietary needs forget about that too, one menu fits all. Leave your loved ones there at their own risk.

    First of all, this whole rehabilitation home business is a pimp game, because not every elder needs it after coming out of the hospital. The patients and families are convinced that rehabilitation is necessary for a full recovery. (Why aren't my elderly family members who come out of the hospitals with the same conditions, outside of NYC, "required" to stay at a rehabilitation home? ) It's just another money game in this city. I'm so angry that we fell for it. Anyway, Jewish Healthcare seems to be in cahoots with all the hospitals in the area. They were highly recommended by the hospital. Unfortunately we made the mistake of assuming that the name and location of the facility qualify it as top notch. Wrong! At first the facility seemed legit; they rolled out the red carpet for my mother-in-law on the first day, providing her with personalized care and a great meal. But after being there for four weeks, my mother-in-law tells a story of neglect, rudeness and skimpy meals. It took them almost 1 1/2 weeks to repair her phone and replace the batteries in her TV remote. Plus, during this time there were instances when we couldn't get a live nurse or attendant on the phone. My mother-in-law must have lost ten pounds while she was there and she just wasn't herself. When we asked her why she didn't complain or at least tell us how bad she was feeling, she alluded to being treated more badly by the staff when she did. And to add insult to injury, they tried to convince us that she needed to stay there longer if not permanently. Don't let the location and predisposed attitudes fool you. This is not a good facility for you loved one.

    Make no mistake about it it. This is a money-making operation. Ask a lot of questions before leaving a loved one here. Even if you're admitted for re-hab after a hospital stay on Medicare, there is a charge for telephone, a charge for TV and if you need a private room, a daily charge. When my spouse's 100 days of coverage ended, the therapists decided he was not ready to go home so his release was postponed. I was then presented with a bill for over $6,000 for 12 days of room and board. They never got the food and medicine issues quite right and VNS was not advised of his release so they could visit the next day as required, to discuss home therapy and aides visits.
