Visited on behalf of a friend considering staying at Ferncliff. I was struck by the clean, bright, modern feel of the facility. Very friendly staff took their time answering our questions. I have visited several rehab and nursing facilities locally but this is probably one of the nicest ones I have seen.

Harrible place, I did not even want to place one single star. I had a major problem with my mom, they neglected her several times, she had a stroke their and 4 hours later they had no idea that she was having a stroke, all the signs were their and it was not till I made them take her to the hospital when I spoke to her in 2 seconds on the phone and new that she was in bad shape. 1 hour later she would have been dead the doctor told us. She feel twice and they denied that she ever feel when their own staff informed me they picked her up. Then she ended up with bloochess all over her body which appeared to have been some kind of bug bites? She was so blown up and we thought she had some type of GI issue I had been asking the nurses to please have my mom get checked out by a doctor or some test to see what's going on with her, she couldn't eat and her stomach was bloadef? I asked them to please call me when doctor goes or when test are to be done as they new my mom does not speak the language and gets very frightening when she does not know what or why tgey are doing things to her, so she will refuse that. But never did they call me to let me know at all. But everytime I would call them to find out when they are going to get that fone, they said that they already went but my mom had refused it? What I asked them to do by calling me to let her know or meet them, they never responding to me; why not sure? Meanwhile my mom for the past 3+ months or so has been suffering from congestive heart failure and instead of helping her They taken care of her proberly they just hurt her and put her under so much more agrivation that they caused her that clearly she did not need.

My experience at Ferncliff was not acceptable. I was on the 2nd floor for rehabilitation following total knee replacement. The hallways stank so bad that I spent most of my one month stay there in my room with the door closed and my air freshener to try to avoid the smell. The evening nursing staff were very inattentive as there were times I rang the bell for a pain pill and had to wait 2 hours before a nurse finally brought me the medication I need to alleviate the pain that grew worse while waiting. At times I was unable to get an Ice pack for the swelling in my knee (which was part of my treatment for recovery)because there were no more left in the freezer. The bed was nothing but a hard plastic rock and it was impossible to get a decent nights sleep. In the whole time I was there I saw a doctor twice once when I was admitted and once when I was discharged. Not once in the month I was there did anyone check my incision area to be sure I was not getting an infection. The first 4 nights I was there I was so sick to my stomach which only happened after I was given 2 anti-inflammatory pills that were prescribed for me and no one would listing to me that they were what was making me sick. What they did to on the 4th night because I keep complaining that I was so sick was to force (not hand me the cup with the medication but put it to my mouth and make me take it) medication on me to knock me out even though I said I did not want to take it because I did not know what it was. No looked in to the fact that I got sick after taking this medication for 4 night in a row it ended when I refused to take the medication . I would not go back to this facility nor would I recommend this facility to anyone. The only good thing I can say about this facility is that the Rehabilitation Staff(who are not part of the nursing or aide staff) they were great.

Compare The Number of Problems

Types of Problems at Nursing Homes

Some issues within a nursing home are much more severe than others. Medicare evaluates each problem based on 2 scales: the number of residents affected by a problem and the severity of the potential or actual harm to residents based on the problem. We have color coded the matrix below to make it easier to pick out the more severe problems. In general, orange and red issues related to the treatment of a resident are considered substandard quality of care.

  Residents Affected
Severity of the Deficiency Few Some Many
Immediate jeopardy to resident health or safety J K L
Actual harm that is not immediate jeopardy G H I
No actual harm with potential for more than minimal harm that is not immediate jeopardy D E F
No actual harm with potential for minimal harm A B C
