They gave my mother in law excellent care when she was there for rehab. The food choices were tremendous!

NHC is not below average, but it's certainly not above average. It's also isn't living up to the repetition it had three or four years ago. Coordination of care from day to day and shift to shift is lacking. Nurses are overworked and have a case load to large to manage at critical times of the day. The shift change that occurs at 7:00 am is certainly convienant for Dr's, nurses, and staff, but effects the quality of care for patients very negatively. Still waiting to find a facility that puts patients needs above staff needs and changes shifts at 3:00 am, so meeting can be held while patients are asleep. The phycility is clean and kept well, although the the food isn't living up to the billing. The Thearary staff is very good, and the CNA's are nice and helpful. If you are an acertive person who can and are willing to articulate you needs, it's not a bad place. But if you're an 80+ year old who has a hard time vocalizing your needs and wants to leave your care up to someone else, you should look elsewhere. Last comments: Patients should be discharged when goals are met, not some predetermined date. If the average stay for a hip replacement is 14 days, not every patient will be discharged in 14 days. If a person was in a wheelchair for a year before a hip replacement, mostly likely their stay should be longer then a person who was reasonably active before surgery. Circumstance such as living alone and steps to manage to get into your home also should have an effect. Don't let them push you out the door in 14 days. Demand to see your goals and stay until your goals at met.

MIXED!, They have some teaching opportunities! The rehab staff is excellent! The first shift had some very, very excellent caregivers. The 2nd shift and the Administrations was a disappointment on many levels.

My grandmother was at this facility several years ago after a fall for rehab and currently for rehab after hospitalization with cancer. This is the most amazing place-these people want to help your family member get better by encouraging them to do for themselves and getting them up and going everyday. No one wants to see their grandmother "put somewhere" but this is like a resort! This place has excellent care, chefs and is like a luxury hotel...I wouldn't want my grandmother anywhere else. She doesnt get this kind of food or ambience at home! I know she is nurtured in the positive way in this facility. Thank you NHC for being above and beyond!

The NHC Rehabilitation Unit is top quality but the NHC Assisted Living area has suffered. What used to be a premier place for residents and their families to be assured that the assisted living care they were receiving was among the best has deteriorated in the past three years as the CNA staff is in constant turnover and residents are lucky to have the care for which they pay. As a family member, I do not recommend this as a place to consider for a loved one.

Compare The Number of Problems

Types of Problems at Nursing Homes

Some issues within a nursing home are much more severe than others. Medicare evaluates each problem based on 2 scales: the number of residents affected by a problem and the severity of the potential or actual harm to residents based on the problem. We have color coded the matrix below to make it easier to pick out the more severe problems. In general, orange and red issues related to the treatment of a resident are considered substandard quality of care.

  Residents Affected
Severity of the Deficiency Few Some Many
Immediate jeopardy to resident health or safety J K L
Actual harm that is not immediate jeopardy G H I
No actual harm with potential for more than minimal harm that is not immediate jeopardy D E F
No actual harm with potential for minimal harm A B C
